Bill was a quiet farmer in Ohio, with two young sons and a pretty wife. All that changed in the summer of 1875, when a company of mechanized cavalry paid a visit to the farm while he was away. Returning to find his family slaughtered and his life shattered, Bill swore vengeance on the Rebels that had done this to him. Although he lacked any ability to fight, he knew his skills as a logger and builder would be useful. He moved West, to the Black Hills, and worked hard for the Union cause. It became apparent as the Manitou catastrophe approached, that his axe alone would not save him. He picked up an old revolver and went to battle for the Union cause. He lived to see the very last Confederate in the Black Hills die but was struck down by an outlaw's saber before he could savor this triumph.
Months later, his spirit recalled to his broken body, Bill awoke again in the Black Hills. His heart empty, he has picked up his revolver once more, it being all that is left to him now.
